Animals in Mind believes that all pet animals kept
by humans are entitled to live free from pain, boredom and anxiety. On many occasions, our pets show
inappropriate behaviour because they are in pain, are bored or have some form of anxiety.
Many of the animals we keep as pets and as companions are given a raw deal sometimes
by circumstance and sometimes on the advice of so-called professionals.
Gentle schooling
To compliment our campaigns on inhumane methods we have drawn up our gentle schooling policy which
provides a basis for humane and non-coercive teaching of animals. We also have a booklet
that explains the details and benefits of treating animals with fairness and consideration.
Behaviour solving techniques
There are a number of recommended ways to prevent this inappropriate behaviour that involve pain,
torture and violence, it is this type of recommendation that we would like to see die out in this country.
Our intention isn't simply to tell people what to do, but to put forward sound
reasoned arguments why we should abandon cruel practices. We always have alternative methods to offer
in place of torture and violence.

Chokes chains, whips and crops
For hundreds of years years we have forced and beaten animals to get them to do our bidding. We
think it's about time we started to use a little more of our intelligence to work with them.
Electric and sonic shock devices
With advances in technology, it is now possible to inflict cruel pain and suffering on animals
just with a 'black box' and some batteries, we believe these devices are cruel and health damaging.
Free car sticker.
Crating dogs in the house
In recent years there has been a large increase in the number of dog trainers and behaviourists
that recommend the use of an indoor crate to solve behaviour and training problems. We don't think this
is humane, effective or remotely necessary.
Hitting dogs to solve problems
It is often suggested by many trainers and behaviourists that some dogs should be pyysically chastised
in an attempt to solve their behaviour problems, we think this is a very inhumane not to mention dangerous
practice.
